This residential growth is only expected to accelerate in the coming years with some projections showing Venus to be a city of 30,000 population in five to six years. Holiday and Vacation Accrual

  • Employees receive 80 hours of holiday pay per year
  • Employees receive 80 hours of vacation per year until 8 years of service, in which employees then receive 120 hours of vacation per year. At 12+ years of service employees receive 160 hours of vacation per year

Medical

  • Employees receive 80 hours of sick time per year
  • Fully-paid medical, dental, vision and life insurance plans. Eligible dependents can be covered on medical, dental and vision plans with 50% paid for by the city
  • Individual plans have a $1,500 deductible. Family plans have a $3,000 deductible
  • Health Reimbursement Arrangement (HRA) account with city contributions at $500 per year

Retirement

  • The city contributes to the Texas Municipal Retirement System (TMRS) at a rate of 2 to 1 up to 7%
  • Employees are vested into the system after 5 years
  • The city offers a 20-year retirement plan

Lateral Applicants

Those with prior qualifying law enforcement experience are encouraged to apply. Lateral applicants can qualify for up to $64,287 per year depending on qualifications

Certification Pay and Duty Incentives

  • Intermediate Peace Officer - $0.50 per hour increase
  • Advanced Peace Officer - $0.75 per hour increase
  • Master Peace Officer - $1.00 per hour increase
  • Education Pay for Associate's, Bachelor's, and Master's degree
  • Field Training Officer (while in performance) - $0.50 per hour increase
  • CID stipend of $1.00 per hour increase
  • Officer in Charge stipend of $1.00 per hour increase
  • Night-Shift Differential of $.50 per hour increase
  • Bilingual Pay

Miscellaneous Perks

  • Take-Home Patrol Vehicle Program
  • Flexible policies allowing for beards and tattoos.
  • Gear includes a department-issued Glock 45 MOS with a red dot sight, patrol rifle, 40MM Less-Lethal, rifle-resistant vest, and load-bearing outer carriers
  • $150 yearly allowance for boots
  • Twelve (12) hour shifts with every-other weekend (Friday, Saturday, Sunday) off
  • The department supports and proactively seeks out certification training to help personnel obtain TCOLE proficiency certificates
